About Bilyara

Bilyara is a community-owned, not-for-profit organisation that has cared for older people in Cowra and the surrounding region since 1988.

Our story

Bilyara began in 1988 through the vision and commitment of the Cowra community, which recognised the need for quality local aged care. More than three decades on, we remain proudly community owned and focused on what matters most: the wellbeing, dignity and independence of the people we care for.

Today Bilyara provides residential care, retirement living and care at home, supporting hundreds of older people to live well with the security of knowing they are part of a supportive and compassionate community. We are the largest residential aged care provider in our catchment, with around 170 residents across the home and the village.

Our name

Bilyara is a Wiradjuri word meaning Eaglehawk, a name that connects us with the place and the community we call home. The eaglehawk is the emblem of the Shire of Cowra and a symbol of strength, vision and guardianship.

It reflects our commitment to supporting older people to live well today, while looking confidently to the future. We sit on the hill beside the Japanese Gardens, overlooking the Lachlan River and valley.
